The Rez

The Indians who live on the Reservation feel like they were left there to die. The Reservation seems like a place where the whites can leave all hopes to die. The Indians believe that the Rez is always the only thing holding them back. That since white people put them there they can't go elsewhere.
The problem is they believe white people have the most hope. Everyone has the same amount of hope because it comes from within. You just have to find it like how Junior did in the story. Hope is something that nobody can take away from you. Only you can take it away. Hope comes from dreams, desires, goals so you must have your eyes set on something to acquire hope. The Indians believe they were born without hope. I believe that they were just born with hope but were without being able to realize it.
However many Indians look to blame their problems on the white people, which is reasonable, but they never look at themselves. The Indians tell each other that there's nothing you can do, because that's all they've learned or been taught in life. Many Indians give up on life far too early, which is why they don't often succeed on a lot of things. If Indians began to believe they can do it they might be able to get themselves off the Rez.
However in some cases Indians are right to blame white people for their struggle. In a white America the opportunities for all others are kept to minimum. They can't let anyone else succeed so they find ways to bring them down. The problem is if you get brought down there's no coming back. You start at a disadvantage, but many people have come back from it for instance Arnold in the story or look at our President. It's not impossible to succeed in our world nowadays, but many Indians see it that way, because they were left for dead on the Rez.

Native Sons

Based on being a reader and my common knowledge of today, I believe I would've sentenced Bigger to the death penalty. Bigger committed lots of crimes in his life and the two biggest being rape and murder. I would like to say I feel terrible for Bigger because I realize that the society around him created him. I do believe the society around him kept him down. However I believe the biggest thing that kept Bigger Thomas down, was Bigger Thomas.
Bigger Thomas' life was miserable and an effect of society. The society around Bigger shaped him
entirely. I believe the reason he feared and hated white people is because the white people feared and hated him. Bigger Thomas' thoughts were all thoughts that the whites wanted him to think. However when Bigger killed he became something that whites don't want. He felt free and that he could do anything he pushed himself to do.
Honestly I think murder is a terrible, disgusting thing but I realize that it can give you a sense of power over your life that you may not feel normally. I believe that Bigger felt like he had finally achieved what he wanted all his life, freedom and power. However it was short lived because of course committing murder is terrible.
I believe that Bigger Thomas deserved a second chance after killing Mary, because he was doing it to gain power of his life. I believe that many other people's influence on him caused him to do that. However him killing Bessie is never okay. Killing Bessie is understandable from a criminal point of view, but he's not a criminal. However him killing Bessie made him to be a killer. I also believe that his raping of Mary is Bigger's fault, but Mary became a factor in the this rape. However how do you really know Bigger's thinking if he can do it again with Bessie. I believe something that makes Bigger more of a criminal and effect of his society is he treats whites better than blacks. I believe that he knows he was wrong with "raping" and killing Mary, but I think it was perfectly fine for him to do it to a BLACK WOMAN. At the end of the day I believe Bigger is in the wrong and should've recieved the death penalty.

Principles to Stick To

Principles to stick to....
Do I even have one, because there's nothing I can think of that I'd say I wouldn't do in case of an apocalypse. I guess I could say nothing in order to lose my dignity or integrity. If It came down to it I wouldn't like talk about someone who was talking about me. I would address it with them because people that hate anonymously is so annoying. I mean c'mon, are you seriously that scared that you can't say what you have to say face to face. Because if you can't say it face to face how can I ever trust anybody. People that hate anonymously remind me of people that have nothing better to do in their lives, so they try to bring others down with them. People who hate anonymously literally are the most funniest, yet annoying thing ever. It shows people that in order to amuse or pleasure yourself you have to talk about them. I don't believe in "sneak dissing" because how are you going to get the problem addressed if you ignore it when you're with them. These are my few principles to stick to because I'm not a very moral person.

Janie

At the beginning of Their Eyes Were Watching God I always thought that Janie was a good girl, tht was confused because her grandma wanted her to be something she wasn't. When her grandmother married her to Logan I felt bad for her because this wasn't something she wanted to do. Then when she left Logan cuz she was annoyed kind of changed my point of view. I began to realize that she started turning into something that her grandmother didn't want to be. From my understanding she began to act like her mother and was blinded by her desire to be with someone. Whenever she reached one of the lowest points of her life she would cover it up by going to another man. However in the time she was free I found that respect for her again because she went back to doing what she wanted to. But as soon as she met Tea Cake she blindly lost control of herself and once again became what her grandmother was trying to protect her from becoming.

Thanksgiving

Happy Thanksgiving!
I am thankful for many things in life, family, sports, friends. However in my English class everything is tougher because I like everyone in own way, but that was too much to write. Therefore if I had to narrow my choices down, I am most thankful for Lauren and Jan. They helped me get through the first month of English. Mostly because I didn't know anyon else, but that's besides the point.
I am thankful for Lauren because coming into the class she was my only actual friend. Now don't get me wrong we never really talked before now, but I still called her a friend of mine. She's funny and rude, but I can always count on her to make me smile. Before this class we never really talked to each other, we just knew of each other through our other friends. Now in this class we talk more and I think we both know "SQUAD" has to stick together. I like that we both have unspoken agreement to make Jan do all the really hard stuff while we do simple things.  Anyways get well soon Lauren and I hope to see you Saturday or Monday.
I am also thankful for Jan as well because we are coming better and better friends. Before this class I think we more of acquaintainces than friends. We never really talked to each other, even in division just I knew you and you knew me. Then this English class started and we actually began to talk occasionally. So now I can honestly call you a friend. You're pretty funny and nice, but at times you get a little chunk when talking to McCarthy, but I find it quite funny. Before I forget without you Lauren and I both know that without you our group work would never get done. You are the one that always receives the constructive criticism from us, while still keeping us on track. Honestly in class we do about little to none. Thanks again and I will see you next Monday.

Hemingway

Ernest Hemingway was a very depressed man that always tried to compensate for being treated like a girl when he was younger. He was able to go hunting with his dad when he was younger which was the only thing that kept him feeling like a boy. In high school he attempted to become the center of attention and he began to write stories for the Kamsas City Star newspaper thanks to his uncle.

Hemingway's life had its ups and downs, but he tried to grow as a very happy and spirited man. His mentor was more of a mother to him than his controlling mother. She helped him improve his writhing. However his writing style was still very unique at the time. He didn't have very much time to grow up as the first world war arrived. He was rejected by the Army because he had defective vision, so he joined the Ref Cross in Italy. There he found love in Agnes, but she didn't feel the same way and he returned to Oak Park without her. His mother soon kicked him out of the house because she believed he was a failure and wanted to put him on the right path. He then moved to Chicago to write articles where he found a woman named Hadley and married her. They moved to Europe in the 1920s. He began to like a woman named Gertrude but one of his biggest rivals won her and he tried to fight the rival.

After this breakdown Hemingway went on to argue with all of his old colleagues. In fact with his old mentors he disrespected her by saying he had surpassed her teachings. However just after divorcing Hadley he published Sun Also Rises which turned into his breakthrough work. He came to begin fishing again which became second most important to him after writing, more important than anything else. He then fought in World War II and old people he was this amazing war hero. He then was involved in two different plan crashes in Africa which became the turning point in his life. This was the leading up to his death.

There is one thing that can't be undermined, he is one of the most accomplished writers ever.
